- Access: The hatch is equipped with a padlockable locking system that prevents unauthorized access.
- Safety: The cover acts as a primary barrier to underground or deep infrastructure and protects against the risk of falls.
2. Easy Handling
- Material: The use of aluminum or stainless steel makes the hatch lighter than concrete or cast iron access hatches.
- Assistance Mechanisms: For large formats, the hatch is often equipped with gas struts (hydraulic springs). These struts allow the operator to open the panel with minimal effort and hold it securely in the open position, preventing accidental closure.
- Lifting handles: Recessed handles are provided for lifting.

What is the load capacity of the hatches?
The grates are primarily specified for HS-20/H-20 loading (according to AASHTO standards), making them suitable for installation in areas with heavy truck traffic. Capacities for pedestrian or light traffic areas are also available.
Are aluminum hatches sufficiently resistant to heavy traffic?
Contrary to popular belief, when designed and manufactured with structural grade extruded aluminum, they can bear the same loads as cast iron or concrete, but without rusting.
Is aluminum resistant to corrosion caused by wastewater?
Absolutely. Aluminum is naturally corrosion-resistant and does not rust, which is essential in the humid and gaseous environments (hydrogen sulfide, H2S) found in sewers and pumping stations.
Is the hatch secured against public access?
Yes, all our hatches are equipped with robust locking systems (often padlockable or with hidden latches) to prevent unauthorized access.
