Bio-Redox (completely mixed biological reactor) and Bio-Redox-Plus (suspended packing biological reactor) aim to reduce organic and nitrogen loads in domestic and industrial wastewater. They can be used as pre-treatment for high loads or as primary secondary treatment. The prefabricated modular design facilitates integration into existing sites as well as new installations.

Offered at a competitive price, they reduce processing chain costs.

Flexibility

Can be easily modified to increase capacity or precede other types of treatment systems to improve performance.

Specification

Enviro-STEP Technologies designs BIO-REDOX and BIO-REDOX PLUS units according to your needs and provides calculations and workshop drawings approved by our engineers. These processes are recognized by the Department of the Environment.

Bio-Redox

Bio-Redox is mainly used to reduce high loads in industrial applications such as food processing or in establishments where food is prepared. Each Bio-Redox system includes one or more treatment tanks, an aeration system, and a sludge settling and storage unit. An extremely simple and effective process, it generally precedes a secondary, advanced secondary, or tertiary treatment process.

Bio-Redox plus

BIO-REDOX PLUS is a suspended packing biological reactor (RBGS). A bacterial support with a very high specific surface area is added to the biological reactor to promote the development of a high biomass concentration. This significantly reduces the size of the biological reactor while maintaining its performance and making it highly resistant to variations in flow rates and loads. It is an ideal choice for higher flow applications where organic matter concentrations exceed those of typical domestic wastewater. Bio-Redox-Plus excels in applications where operating conditions vary over time or where space is limited. BIO-REDOX PLUS is also used when nitrogen removal is required.

Two 3D views showing the structural installation and dry and wet components inside a concrete tank that includes a bio-redox system. The tank in each image is divided into three compartments comprising a BIO-REDOX system:

  • Tank/Compartments
  • Diffusion System
  • Supply Pipes
  • Air Distribution Pumps or Valves

 System operation

  • Single or multi-stage: The biological reactor can be designed as a single stage or multiple stages depending on the concentration of the water to be treated and the desired output.

  • Media: The key to the process is its very high surface area media, which allows the establishment of a biofilm composed of a large population of microorganisms that degrade pollutants. This media, which is only slightly denser than wastewater, is vigorously agitated.

  • Aeration and mixing: Air injection from the bottom (via diffusers) provides the oxygen and turbulence necessary to break down organic matter (aerobic process) by maximizing contact between wastewater and the media.

The standards

Bio-Redox

Bio-Redox can remove more than 90% of the organic load from wastewater, facilitating treatment by processes capable of handling water with typical domestic concentrations.

Bio-Redox Plus

The effluent obtained with Bio-Redox Plus is secondary level, i.e., less than or equal to 20 mg/L in BOD5C and TSS. For more stringent requirements, it can be combined with our POLI-FILTER process or another of our advanced secondary level technologies. Phosphorus removal or ultraviolet disinfection can also be added if necessary.

Your questions, our answers

What is BIO-REDOX technology?

BIO-REDOX is a biological wastewater treatment system (domestic or industrial) designed to reduce organic load.

How does the technology work?

It uses microorganisms (bacteria) in a process that often requires oxygen (aeration, visible in the images) to “oxidize” organic pollutants, transforming them into harmless by-products. Measuring the REDOX potential is essential for adjusting aeration and optimizing bacterial activity.

How is BIO-REDOX used?

It can be used as the main secondary treatment process or as a pretreatment for domestic or industrial wastewater with high organic content.
