FAQ

Alarms

Category: Alarms

Go to the control panel of your HYDRO-KINETIC, open the gray box, and identify the alarm using the indicator lights. You can press the blue RESET button to stop the alarm. If the alarm persists, you can lower the black circuit breaker, which will stop the alarm. Request technical support via our web form here

Possible Alarm Types:

High Water (HIGH WATER)

In the case of a high-water level, it is important to open the 4th and 5th covers and check the water height. If the system seems higher than usual, contact your installer, a disaster expert or a plumber. Enviro-STEP Technologies is not an emergency service.

If the level is normal, then the alarm is related to a malfunctioning high-water float. Request technical support via our web form here

Air Pump (AIR PUMP)

This could be due to several different reasons related to the air pump. Request technical support via our web form here

Recirculation Pump (RECIRC PUMP)

This could be due to several different reasons related to the recirculation pump. Request technical support via our web form here

Auxiliary 1 (AUX 1)

If your HYDRO-KINETIC is equipped with a lifting pump, the alarm will sound when the pump has an issue or is no longer functional. You should reduce your household water discharge. If the system seems higher than normal, contact your installer, a disaster expert or a plumber. Enviro-STEP Technologies is not an emergency service. If everything seems normal,Request technical support via our web form here.

If your HYDRO-KINETIC is equipped with an UV disinfection lamp, it may be the cause. Request technical support via our web form here

Maintenance

Category: Maintenance

For an advanced secondary system, such as a HYDRO-KINETIC with a polishing field, we perform one inspection per year.

For a tertiary system, such as a HYDRO-KINETIC with phosphorus removal, UV disinfection, or both, we perform two inspections per year due to the sampling obligations under Q-2, r.22.

Category: Maintenance

Your presence is not required; our technician will leave a notice on your door after performing the maintenance on your HYDRO-KINETIC.

Category: Maintenance

A secondary advanced HYDRO-KINETIC (with polishing field) is inspected once a year. This maintenance includes:

      • Checking the proper functioning of mechanical components, internal plumbing, alarms, control panel, flow regulator, and HKP-33 lifting pump (if installed).
      • Measuring sludge, scum, and mixed liquor concentration.

A tertiary HYDRO-KINETIC (with phosphorus removal, UV disinfection, or both) is inspected twice a year. Maintenance includes:

      • Checking the proper functioning of mechanical components, internal plumbing, alarms, control panel, and flow regulator (partial checking on 2nd visit).
      • Measuring sludge, scum, and mixed liquor concentration (1st visit).
      • In the case of a HYDRO-KINETIC with phosphorus removal:
        • A water sample is sent to the laboratory to analyze total phosphorus concentration.
      • In the case of a HYDRO-KINETIC with UV disinfection:
        • A check of the UV components.
        • Changing the lamp every 4th visit (every 2 years).
        • A water sample is sent to the laboratory to analyze the concentration of fecal coliforms.
Category: Maintenance

The HYDRO-KINETIC stands out due to the absence of a septic tank (as defined by the Q-2, r.22 regulation) but instead uses a primary treatment occupying the first two sections of the system. The first step, called “pretreatment,” retains coarse solids. The second step is called “anoxic treatment,” where a portion of the wastewater is periodically mixed with secondary sludge to promote sludge degradation and reduce volume. The pumping of the HYDRO-KINETIC’s primary treatment is done only when necessary, based on the results of an annual measurement by an authorized HYDRO-KINETIC technician. The frequency depends on each user but is typically every 3 to 5 years, with certain exceptions. This pumping is called PARTIAL PUMPING.

Like any biological process, there will come a time when the biomass concentration is very high, and the entire system must be pumped. The frequency depends on usage but may sometimes reach 8 to 10 years, again with exceptions. This pumping is called COMPLETE PUMPING and is also done only when needed, according to the certified technician’s guidelines.

We have two maintenance seasons: from snowmelt until August for the annual maintenance, followed by September to the holiday period for the second inspection of clients with a HYDRO-KINETIC featuring phosphorus removal, UV disinfection, or both.

Category: Maintenance

The system (including the control panel) must be accessible at all times for inspection. A $100 fee will apply for unnecessary trips or if we need to clear snow, dig, or move objects or structures to access all the system covers. No appointment or prior notice is required for inspection visits.

Category: Maintenance

According to provincial regulation (Q-2, r.22), tertiary systems (with phosphorus removal, UV disinfection, or both) must be sampled twice a year, as close as possible to every 6 months, hence the two inspection visits per year.
